​ ​WHO CAN BE A MEMBER?
We welcome anyone who is involved in music education, specifically instrumental music, to come and join our group. This includes current band directors, retired band directors, affiliates such as industry members, and education students. We aim to bring women together, but anyone is welcome!

​ARE MEN ALLOWED TO JOIN?  
Yes! Men are able to join as regular members and are able to take advantage of the various programs and initiatives we offer. The focus of this group is on women and the issues that they face, but all who support women and are open to the opportunity to learn from women are welcome.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BE A MEMBER?
  • Regular Membership: $40 ($20 to WBDI international, $20 to Alberta chapter)
  • ​Affiliate (non- band director): $25 (Paid directly to AB chapter) 
  • Industry: $50 (Paid directly to AB chapter)
  • ​Student Membership: $10 (Paid directly to AB chapter)
  • Honorary membership (TBA)

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF MEMBERSHIP?
WBDI is an organization that endeavours to promote, support, mentor and encourage women band directors, including students entering the band field. Some of the benefits of membership include:

  • Unique programs and initiatives that are catered specifically to fostering, encouraging and providing music educational benefit to women band directors and their students.
  • Programing and initiatives that center on women and the unique issues they face.
  • Being apart of a network of other women band directors in the province and beyond.
  • Having allies in the field - people who may have had similar experiences because they are women.
  • Fellowship, mentorship, promotion and recognition of women in the field of education.

WBDI programs and initiatives serve to promote, encourage and celebrate the efforts of women of all ages and levels of experience and pedagogy.

HOW DOES IT DIFFER FROM OTHER MEMBERSHIPS LIKE THE ALBERTA BAND ASSOCIATION?
The purpose of WBDI is to further and support band and band music. We do not compete with other organizations and look to enhance work that is already being done.
